The receiver is situated in the San Marco Telemetry Station, located in Malindi, Kenya.
The installation become operational on the 12th November 1995. The monument is located in the centre of the station.
The first receiver was a MiniRogue SNR-8C using its internal frequency standard (unlike other stations, Malindi has no atomic timing standard, but a portable Rubidium oscillator is expectedd to be available).
The receiver was upgraded to a TurboRogue SNR-12 RM on October 1997 and to an Ashtech Z-XII in April 2001.
The communication link has been based on a modem working over the public telephone network, on ESA permanent lines and currently on a reliable Internet connection from the San Marco station.
The Station Information Form (SIF) summarises the characteristics and development of the GPS site. The last version and more information are available from the IGS Central Bureau
